Health and Healing Program

Seeking out the children and adults with special physical, developmental and emotional needs, the Special Needs Program team provides therapeutic stimulation; assessments and treatment, home visits, medications and nutritional supplements with education, and accompaniment to appointments.  Village women trained as midwives by Atzin or given educational scholarships now offer a full range of safe motherhood services, including prenatal and postnatal care, delivery attendance, newborn follow-up, and emergency transfers.  Children attend a dental and oral health program at no cost while adults receive subsidized dental care.  With technical assistance from Atzin and its corporate partners in Canada, the midwives and promoters are organizing the construction and management of a women’s wellness centre, complete with a birthing facility and crisis reception centre.
